A new restaurant in DC serving southern American cuisine will honor legendary writer Zora Neale Hurston and her hometown Eatonville FL the nations first incorporated black township. Zora Neale Hurston was a recognized African American author contemporary of the Harlem Renaissance and a graduate of DCs own Howard University where she confounded the Hill Top. The restaurant itself was also very cool.
The whole restaurant is themed around Zora Neale Hurston and is in fact named after her Florida hometown. They have lots of cool murals on the walls which I quite enjoyed looking at while eating my brunch. Sorry for the unflattering picture Sara but that artwork is just so cool.
A novelist short story writer anthropologist and folklorist Zora Neale Hurston is the author of four novels Jonahs Gourd Vine 1934 Their Eyes Were Watching God 1937 Moses Man of the Mountain 1939 and Seraph on the Suwanee 1948. She also published nonfiction including two books of folklore Mules and Men 1935 and Tell My Horse 1938 and the memoir Dust Tracks on a Road.
